DESCRIPTION

Puy Vidal is a small hamlet in central France's Auvergne region. Morning unfolds slowly, with low-angle light turning each field luminous. A narrow lane runs from the foreground into the distance, drawing the eye past a tall dark tree on the left and vivid green crops on the right. The lane becomes the scene's focal point as it disappears beyond golden wheat fields. Telegraph poles mark its path. Above, a lavender-blue summer sky holds soft clouds.

The lane's perspective anchors the composition and draws the eye into the French countryside. Greens are rich and varied, ochres warm, and the overall feeling is one of generous, unhurried summer abundance.

Sally Herriott is a British artist known for vivid landscapes that celebrate the gentle rhythms of nature. Painted in oils with a palette of oranges, golds, and greens celebrating French meadows, this is among the most joyful works from her French collection.

Exhibited in Lumens, Sally Herriott's solo exhibition in Stockholm in 2025 and at the Grünewaldvillan, Saltsjöbaden, 2026.
