DESCRIPTION

A nude figure leans over a bathtub, lit by warm sunlight from a tall window behind. The room glows with gold, olive, ochre, and yellow tones, while the blue sky shows through the window. The scene feels quiet and intimate, drawing the viewer into a calm, peaceful mood.

Inspired by Pierre Bonnard's use of color and composition, Sunlit Bather began with a quick charcoal sketch made during a recent life drawing class. Herriott then created several preparatory studies, refining the colors and composition before painting the final version on canvas. She chose to frame the scene through an open doorway, inviting viewers to feel like quiet observers who have come across a private moment.

Herriott says: 'I have long been interested in developing more substantial works from these quick studies completed in life drawing classes. By working from sketches through to smaller oil studies before commencing the final large piece, I created this intimate interior scene.' Measuring 100 × 75 cm, it is available for pickup or drop-off in the Stockholm area.

Exhibited in Lumens, Sally Herriott's solo exhibition in Stockholm in 2025, and at the Grünewaldvillan, Saltsjöbaden, 2026.
